Remember the Basics
It seems obvious, but you cannot win EuroMillions without buying a ticket. Once you have bought your tickets, you know that you have a chance of winning that jackpot. You really do have to be in it to win it.
Similarly, you can’t collect a prize if you do not check your ticket. Make sure you use the EuroMillions Ticket Checker soon after the draw takes place to see whether you have matched any numbers and if you are due a prize.
The advantage of playing EuroMillions online is that you are notified of any prizes you win on your tickets, and you can’t lose or damage them because your numbers are digitally connected to you in your player account.
Predicting the Outcome of the EuroMillions Draw
You have to understand that probability theory is simply a reliable guide. Naturally, the expected frequency and the actual frequency will not always match exactly.
You use probability to predict the future outcome of the game to guide you on how to play your game.
For example, if we want to know in advance the outcome of EuroMillions after 2000 draws, we use the same formula for expected frequency:
If we are to predict the outcome of all the oddeven patterns, we will come up with the following prediction table below:
Pattern Probability Estimated Occurrence in 2000 draws

3odd2even 0.3256621797655230 651 times
2odd3even 0.3256621797655230 651 times
4odd1even 0.1492618323925310 299 times
4even1odd 0.1492618323925310 299 times
Allodd 0.0250759878419453 50 times
Alleven 0.0250759878419453 50 times
As a smart EuroMillions player, you don’t want to waste your money on patterns with low probability. That is the power of probability calculation as we apply it in EuroMillions.
As a lotto player, you want to win the jackpot. Therefore, you should stick with either 3odd2even or 2odd3even and forget about the rest of the patterns.
You get the same idea when it comes to lowhigh patterns. You don’t want to pick a combination whose composition is purely low numbers or strictly high numbers.
However, EuroMillions is not only about lowhigh or oddeven patterns.
We discuss lowhigh and oddeven patterns to show that the lottery can be predicted to an extent. But the lowhigh and oddeven patterns don’t provide the whole picture of the EuroMillions game.
You must understand the EuroMillions game as a whole if you want to win the game. For you to achieve that, you have to understand intricate combinatorial patterns, which is the real key to EuroMillions’ success.
Let’s proceed to discuss what advanced patterns can do to level up your lotto playing strategy.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST EURO MILLIONS NUMBERS
Treat EuroMillions as two separate lotteries. One is a pick5 from 50 numbers; the other is
a pick2 from 12 numbers. Advantage Gold
software tracks the histories of the Red Balls and the Lucky Star balls in two separate files,
which treats them like two separate drawings, each having its own set of charts to make it easy to strategize.
Wheel the Red Balls using the Balanced Wheels in the Wheel Five Gold
software or the book, Lotto Winning Wheels for
Powerball & MEGA Millions. After a few Euromillions drawings, include in your wheel all the virgin
numbers that are yet to be drawn until they have all had at least one win. To give you immediate
access to wheeling systems, you can use the FREE pick5 multiplejackpot winning Balanced Wheels
for the Red Balls.

Tickets Bought in Person
For both the main EuroMillions draw, and the additional HotPicks game, you can claim any winnings by following the procedures outlined below.
Amount Won How to Claim

Up to £100 Take your ticket to any authorised retailer and have it scanned by a member of staff. Successful entries produce a ‘win sound’ and a receipt will be produced which will tell you the value of your prize.
£101 — £500 Some retailers can pay out amounts of up to £500 in cash at their discretion, but they are not obliged to do so. If a retailer cannot pay you can either return at an agreed time, go to another retailer or visit a designated National Lottery Post Office. However, if the retailer has already validated your ticket, you will have to return to the same establishment when they have the funds available.
£501 — £50,000 Visit a National Lottery Post Office or a regional payout centre and complete a claim form. Winnings will be paid by cheque, although Post Offices can issue up to £500 in cash out of any prize won.Any winnings of up to £50,000 can also be redeemed by post. Players must write their name and address on the back of their ticket and complete a claim form for prizes over £5,000. The postal address is: The National Lottery, Accounts Department, PO Box 287, Watford, WD18 9TT.
£50,001 and over Contact the National Lottery directly by ringing 0333 234 50 50. Upon completing a claim form and presenting a valid form on identification, prizes can be received at an agreed location.
For more information about affiliated Post Offices and Regional Centres, visit the main UK Lottery Claims page.
Methods of redeeming noncash prizes, such as those awarded on Mega Week draws, will be detailed in the specific rules created for the individual draw.
How to Beat the Odds of the EuroMillions Game
Of course, you cannot beat the odds of EuroMillions. But thankfully, math can help. There’s a way to increase your chances of winning the game.
The only way to increase your chances of winning is to buy more tickets.
But buying more tickets is useless if you’re making the wrong choices. It’s not OK to choose 12345, and 23456, and 4647484950.
I will explain why.
But first of all, I must ask you to forget about hot or cold numbers. For the longest time, people mistakenly believe that if a number frequently occurs in the past, the same number is bound to be drawn more often in the future. This belief must be corrected.
Now, let’s proceed.
All combinations in EuroMillions 5/50 have the same probability.
It means that 12345 is equally likely.
Play 246810, and that is equally likely too.
Perhaps your combination is 510152025, this combination has the same probability as any other in the universe of Euromillions’ possible combinations.
The truth, all combinations have equal chances.
But think about this. Consider more tickets where all numbers are picked in the form of straight combinations:
 12345
 23456
 34567
 …
 4647484950
If I ask lotto players to spend their money on the above combinations, the surest response I will get is “no way.”
And why not?
That’s because people don’t trust their understanding of probability.
“Gut feeling” dominates the logic
You see, if you are confident that all combinations have the same probability, why be afraid to play all those combinations.
In other words, while you believe that all combinations have the same probability, there’s part of you that says buying “multiple tickets where all combinations are straight numbers” cannot be right.
But gut feeling shouldn’t be superior to mathematics.
If you want to win the EuroMillions game, you have to have a strong mathematical foundation.
And mathematics says:
There’s a big difference between having lots of wrong combinations and having the right combinations.
But how do we explain this mathematically?
Improve Your Chances of Winning the Lottery by Playing the Right Games
Different Lottery Games Have Different Odds and Payouts. Choose Wisely.
Scott Olson / Getty Images
People talk about entering the lottery as if it were just one game, but every state has a selection of lottery games—and they each have different odds of winning.
Read the odds before you spend your money to ensure you’re maximizing your chances of winning. By picking games with better odds, you boost your chances of being a lottery winner.
Remember that lottery games like Powerball and MegaMillions are national lotteries. They have fixed odds of winning, but if many people enter, you could end up splitting a jackpot. That would lower the value of your prize.
The Huge Difference Between Odds and Probability
Odds and probability are two different terms with two different equations. The difference between the two can be best describe when we study the composition of combinations.
As a lotto player, you don’t have the power to change the underlying probability and you cannot beat the odds of the Euromillions game. But you have the power to know all the possible choices and make the right decision based on those choices.
And making the right choice is possible when you know the difference between odds and probability.
What is the difference?
Probability refers to the measurement that an event will likely occur. And we measure the likelihood by using the formula:
We normally expressed the results of this formula in percentage.
Now, to get the odds, we use this formula instead:
What you get from this formula is a ratio.
So the difference is that the probability is the measurement of chance while the odds are the ratio of success to failure.
In layman’s term, the difference between odds and probability can be described in the following way:
Probability = Chance
Odds = Advantage
That is, you cannot control the probability and you cannot beat the odds, but at least you can choose the best odds and get the best ratio of success to failure.
Let’s consider the combination 246810. This combination is composed of 5 even numbers with no odd numbers. This combination belongs to the 0odd5even group.
In the Euromillions game, there are 53,130 ways you can combine 5 numbers that are all even numbers and no odd numbers.
Therefore we calculate the odds of a 0odd5even in the following way:
Odds of 5even0odd = 53,130 / 2,065,630
This means that 246810 and all similar combinations under the group of 0odd5even will give you 2 or 3 opportunities to match the winning combinations for every 100 attempts that you play the Euromillions game.
As you can see, a combination such as 246810 offers a very low ratio of success.
In comparison, you will have a better ratio of success when you pick a more balanced odd and even numbers.
Let’s prove that.
There are 690,000 ways you can combine numbers of type 3odd2even. If we calculate the odds, we get:
Odds of 3odd2even = 690,000 / 1,428,760
In simple terms, a 3odd2even combination will give you the opportunity to match the winning numbers 32 to 33 times in every 100 attempts that you play the Euromillions game.
If we compare the two classes of combinations, we can see a big difference:
0odd5even VS 3odd2even
0odd5even 3odd2even
2 to 3 opportunities to match the winning numbers in every 100 draws 32 to 33 opportunities to match the winning numbers in every 100 draws
The worst ratio of success The best ratio of success
The worst choice An intelligent choice
In a random event like the Euromillions game, making an intelligent choice requires mathematical strategy. We calculate all the possible choices and finally make an intelligent choice.
Remember this: As a EuroMillions player, your objective is to get a better ratio of success to failure. Know all the possible choices and make an intelligent choice.
I explained the details of this mathematical strategy in my article The Lottery and the Winning Formula of Combinatorial Math and Probability Theory.
But to give you a gist of how to make an intelligent choice, let’s dig deeper through these combinatorial patterns below.
Don’t Miss a Lottery Win!
DoubleCheck Your Lottery Tickets So You Don’t Miss a Win.
Saturated / Getty Images
Imagine winning a big jackpot—but missing out on your money because you forgot to doublecheck your numbers. It happens more often than you think.
For example, one MegaMillions lottery ticket worth nearly $300,000 was never claimed. Somewhere out there, there’s someone with no idea that they won, and lost, a huge prize. Don’t let that happen to you.
When you buy a lottery ticket, keep it somewhere where you can find it again easily. Jot down the drawing date and time in your calendar if you’re afraid you might forget it.
Check the numbers against your ticket, and doublecheck them, just to be sure. Also, make sure that you are looking at the numbers for the correct date.

How to Get Lucky in Lotto
CASH IN ON THE LUCK OF OTHERS
When you form a Lotto pool, your group is also pooling its aggregate luck. A
jackpot could happen because of the luck just one member brings to your pool.
Select your partners carefully. Share your luck with winners, not losers. Avoid
negative people. Not only are they unlucky, but they dampen enthusiasm and drain
energy from others. You want to enhance your own luck, not dilute its strength. One
quick way to tell winners from losers is simply to ask them: «Do you think you
are a lucky person?» Many people quickly admit, «I’m unlucky. I never win
anything.» They won’t bring good luck to your group either.
CASH IN ON A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
No one should play games of chance out of desperation because they need the
winnings. The needy have a greater fear of losing the hardearned money they gamble
with. It is just one of life’s dirty tricks that the very fear of losing blocks the
winning forces. Thoughts are charged with energy, especially when triggered by
emotion. Fear attracts exactly that which one fears. A strong desire for a goal
that is charged with positive energy, attracts a positive response, especially when
every effort is made to attain that goal.
Multiply Your Chances of Winning the Lottery with SecondChance Games
Don’t Pass Up Another Chance to Win the Lottery.

OK, so your numbers didn’t come up in the drawing. That means it’s time to toss your lottery ticket, right?
Wrong!
Many lotteries offer secondchance drawings on nonwinning tickets. Fill out the form on the back, send it in, and you’ll have a bonus chance to be a winner.
On June 8, 2010, a TheBalance Everyday reader reported a big lottery win. She didn’t win because of the numbers she played when she bought the ticket, but because she entered the secondchance game in the Kentucky Lottery.
Her name was randomly drawn as the secondchance winner, and she took home $120,610.70 after taxes.
Are EuroMillions Prizes Taxed?
All EuroMillion lottery prizes are paid out taxfree except for Spain EuroMillions. In Spain, there are two tax bands imposed on lottery winnings:

Tax Band 1: Taxfree up to €40,000.

Tax Band 2: Any portion of the prize exceeding €40,000 is subject to a tax rate of 20%.
Lucky for players from abroad, citizens of most countries other than Spain are exempt from these tax bands and entitled to a full tax refund in order to prevent double taxation on the winner’s prize. One thing that should be noted is that claiming a taxrefund is the sole responsibility of the winner and must be done through the Spanish tax authorities.
Playing Online
Playing online has become increasingly popular as it offers a number of advantages over buying a ticket from a retailer. For example, once you purchase your entries online, they are then stored in your account and cannot be lost, stolen or damaged unlike paper tickets. Plus you will be notified if you win, so you don’t even need to check the results.
If you’d like to play online, visit the EuroMillions Online page to get started.
Direct Debits
Another advantage of entering online is that National Lottery players can enter their lines on a continuous basis to ensure they never miss a draw. To set up a Direct Debit, follow these steps:

Step1
Fill out an online playslip
Select your numbers, how many lines you wish to play and whether you want to take part in the Tuesday draw, the Friday draw, or both.
Step2
Choose to play ‘continuously by Direct Debit’
Rather than selecting the option to enter for a set number of weeks.
Step3
Submit your bank sort code and account number
The Direct Debit will take about four weeks to begin and you will then be entered automatically into your chosen draws. You will get a different Millionaire Maker entry for each draw.
You can make changes to your personal details, the numbers you want to use or the draws you wish to enter at any time by going to your account.
Combinatorial Patterns in EuroMillions
Let me describe a mathematical method that will catapult you to Euro Million’s success. Deep within the finite sets of EuroMillions numbers are combinatorial patterns that should tell you the best combinations to play and the worst ones to avoid.
The image above describes the complete randomness of a lottery game. It shows that the lotteries are made up of independent random draws that, when put together with time, exhibit a mathematically deterministic behavior given the law of large numbers. See The Visual Analysis of a True Random Lottery with Deterministic Outcome
Let me clarify that we don’t need statistics to determine the best combinations in a lottery game. Statistics is not the right tool to analyze a lottery game.
So if statistical analysis will not provide the best clue, what will?
Well, since the lottery has a finite structure, any question that we ask is a combinatorial and probability problem to solve rather than statistical.
So instead of statistics, we need the concept of combinatorics and probability theory. These two mathematical tools will help predict the general outcome of the EuroMillions game from the perspective of the law of large numbers.
This prediction is possible because a truly random lottery follows the dictate of probability.
Again, we can explain this better from the context of combinatorial patterns.
For example, we can ask:
“What is the probability that the next winning numbers will be 12345?”
To solve this question combinatorially, we can rephrase the question this way:
“What is the probability that the next winning numbers will be threeodds and twoeven numbers?”
Can you see it? Composition matters.
And the composition of a combination is best described using a combinatorial pattern. You can look at combinatorial patterns in many different ways. There are simple patterns and there are Lotterycodex patterns.
We will talk about Lotterycodex patterns later (you don’t want to miss this section).
Let’s discuss the simple ones first.
How to WIN Euro Millions
Below are a few lotto tips to help you pick euro millions winning combinations, but Gail Howard’s book,
Lottery Master Guide, explains all of her
successful methods of number selection in great detail with examples
of patterns shown throughout.
Lottery numbers are randomly drawn. But randomly drawn numbers form patterns
that can be tracked and used to our advantage. Having carefully analyzed all the
drawings in past lottery results of more than 180 different Lotto games worldwide, with
histories going back as far as 1955, we have verified the following incredibly simple rule:
That which is MOST POSSIBLE happens MOST OFTEN.
That which is LEAST POSSIBLE happens LEAST OFTEN.
The key to Smart Luck’s successful lotto number selection methods is playing
the probabilities. If you play a pattern that occurs only five
percent of the time, you can expect that pattern to lose 95
percent of the time, giving you no chance to win 95 percent of
the time. So, don’t buck the probabilities.
Save Money by Knowing Lotto Numbers to Avoid
Lotto players who select their lottery numbers thoughtlessly or foolishly are destined to lose even before the drawing takes place.
By knowing which number combinations and patterns to avoid, you’ll have an advantage over such players—and save money, too.
AVOID NUMBER COMBINATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN DRAWN BEFORE
Many players like to bet the numbers that have won someone else a big jackpot, and
by doing so, they are almost guaranteed NOT to win one themselves. In the
weekly EuroMillions drawing, a set of five numbers plus the two Luck Star balls
has a chance of being drawn once
every 1,344,598 years!!! This should also answer the question we are so often asked,
«Shouldn’t I keep playing the same set of numbers every week because they are due
to hit sometime?»
AVOID BETTING ONE LOTTO NUMBER GROUP
Never choose all five numbers from one number group, such as all single digits, or
all teens, or all 20’s, etc. All five winning numbers drawn from one group is
highly unlikely.
AVOID THE COMBINATION 12345
The most popular set of numbers most often played is: 12345. Thousands of
tickets are bought with this combination every drawing. The selection
is too far out of balance to come up in a random drawing.
AVOID PATTERN BETTING
Pattern betting is an even more popular method of marking bet slips. Patterns of
numbers marked in a row to make a straight line, either across the bet slip
vertically or diagonally get heavy play—which means sharing the prize with
others if the numbers are drawn as winners. Other designs such as patterns of
initials or numbers or crosses also get heavy play.
AVOID NUMBER MULTIPLES
Other popular combinations that get heavy play are the number multiples, especially
510152025 and 714212835.
AVOID ALL SAME LAST DIGITS
Many people like to play same last digits, such as 3132333, or all digits that
end in seven, or some other favorite lucky lottery number. Even four same last digits occur
in less than twotenths of one percent of all drawings. Winning sets of numbers
with no more than one repeated last digit represent nearly 90 percent of all
drawings.
AVOID LOW NUMBER COMBINATIONS
The majority of Lotto players like to play the calendar numbers, such as birth
dates and anniversaries—and their children’s ages. This means that the most
heavily played numbers are 1 through 31. EuroMillions has 50 numbers. If you play
only the calendar numbers, you might be sharing your jackpot with dozens of other
winners. It’s not to say that you shouldn’t play your personal numbers if you feel these lucky numbers are good to play. But we recommend that you include a couple of high
numbers so that just in case your numbers do hit, you win a prize that’s worth
something.
